Air Conditioning Repair Tips

  • Check filters regularly.  Air Conditioning filters play a vital role in keeping the unit running smoothly.  Not replacing the filters will, over time, cause dust and grime to block the filter creating a back draft that can clog the system and lead to the whole unit shutting down with some issue or another.
  • If your air conditioner does not turn on automatically, check the thermostat.  Turn it to its lowest temp to see if you can get it to turn on.
  • Make sure you have an attic fan.  It is used to dive out hot air from the attic.  This will help in keeping your home cool.
  • Central air conditioning systems work efficiently within a closed environment where the cool air can be circulated smoothly.  It becomes ineffective if there is any leakage in the insulation system.  Check insulating materials and close any gaps with caulk or heat duct tape.
  • If your unit is off, check the circuit breaker in your home.  If the breaker is tripped, check the unit for grounds or shorts.  If its not the breaker, check the thermostat and that there is control power to the thermostat.
  • If the evaporator fan does not run, check for power at the evaporator fan relay.  If it gets power but the contacts do not close, it has failed.  If it gets power and the contacts do close but the fan does not run, check for voltage on the load side of the relay, check the leads to the fan, test the capacitor, and check to see if something is stuck in the blower stopping it from turning.
